In an effort to promote college awareness and access, Stuttgart High School students participated in Arkansas College Application Campaign Month, sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Career Education and PCCUA-Stuttgart Career Coach program during the month of October.  The goal was to provide seniors the opportunity to complete and file college applications with the support of their school.  In this effort, the Career Coach wanted to provide college-focused activities, encouragement, motivation, information, and assistance for all students aspiring to pursue post-secondary education.  To help us reach the intended goal of participating in the Arkansas College Application Campaign, Dr. Ellis came highly recommended to help empower and assist our students. Our organization benefited from working with Dr. Ellis to cross barriers and preconceived notions in order to reach students right where they are.  For some students, this partnership sparked a fire of interest in preparing for future endeavors.  As a result, the career coach program has increased in serving students with college/career resources. Students are better informed and better equipped to make post-secondary education and career decisions.  Because of Dr. Ellis’s connection with the Delta region and his passion for youth, our students connected with him and are taking even more advantage of tools and strategies introduced through the “LASSY” and “MIE”program. The positive and motivational message given by Dr. Ellis encouraged youth and adults of endless opportunities beyond their present state. Students are thinking more about future college & career opportunities to not just better themselves, but also the community they decide to reside in.
